　　　　一直赚不了钱的过气漫画家高畑寿寿男（北山宏光 饰），每天都拿着妻子奈津子（多部未华子 饰）辛苦打工赚来的钱去赌博，过着吊儿啷当、过度乐观的生活。

　　　　某日，寿寿男又拿着老婆赚来的钱去赛马场赌博，终于赢了一次，兴高采烈回家的路上却意外因交通事故突然死去。对于如此废柴的老公寿寿男，上天给他的判决是：「暂缓死亡执行一个月，回到人世间去面对过去愚蠢的人生，做出补偿吧！但是，必须是以猫的姿态回去…」

　　　　于是，寿寿男以虎斑猫的样子回到了奈津子和女儿实优（平泽宏宏路）的身边，成为高畑家捡到的流浪猫宠物「小虎」。困在猫的身体中，无法以语言沟通，这样的寿寿男能为他心爱的家人多做些什么，又该如何弥补过去有所不足的人生呢？
